So, tonight I'm editing some of the photos from the weekend and basically trying to decide which few of the 500+ I think are "blog worthy". Rob is reading on the couch next to me. I like to call it parallel play. ;) Anyhow, I'm trying to figure out which photos to delete and he starts getting all brilliant and technical on me. I think just about everyone knows about the "rule of thirds" and how you should try and put your focal points at those intersections. I've even heard him talk about webpage design and how the eye makes an "F" when reading a webpage. He's handy to have around, I tell ya. So, tonight I'm asking him which photo he likes better and discussing in general some of the little things I'm learning as I'm taking this photo course and the thousands of photos that go along with it. He then introduces me to another little composition tip. The eye likes to make a diagonal from left to right. So, some of the photos that were just "so so" can become much better when I flip them horizontally. For instance, this tree is much more attractive here vs. the photo below.

Same photo (minus the telephone poles), just different orientation.

Same effect here. I've always wondered why Suzy is on the left hand side in most of my favorite photos. Now, thanks to my nerdy brilliant husband - I know!

I DO like this better.... Thanks, Rob! I hope this tip is useful to you as well. ;)
